SIKHARA
"Temples of Taichung" on-line video release from URCK records December 2009
In November, Scott Nydegger made a series of guerilla performances as a solo incarnation of Sikhara in Taichung, Taiwan. All audio and images were taken in some of the most famous temples of Taichung City including The Confucious Temple and the Lin Ancestral Shrine.
The audio was remixed with Jason LaFarge at Seizures Palace in Brooklyn, New York.
With 23 million people on the island, Taiwan is the 15th most densely populated country in the world, although they are in fact a terriorty of sorts. As the Republic of China, they are independant from the People's Republic of China and are recognized by the international community despite their lack of "official" diplomatic relations with all, but 23 countries.
The religion in Taiwan in a mixture of Taoist and Buddhists, with with a heavy influence from Confucianism and various folk religions.
This version of "Temples of Taichung" is an advance version available exclusively on-line. It is the first in a series of videos. Work will continue of this project in March of next year.
